 Kamp Lenape Camper Application 2025

Sign-up for Kamp Lenape Clean-Up Day

Camp Lenape was created in 1972 to give individuals with orthopedic conditions a special place where they could have fun and exciting opportunities during the summer months. Originally run through United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Delaware, it grew to include children with a variety of disabilities looking to grow in a comfortable environment with a close-knit group of friends.

In 2022, KSI learned that Camp Lenape was discontinuing its programs and saw an opportunity to preserve this valuable resource to children with disabilities and their families. The organization acquired the property from UCP and reopened it in summer of 2023 as KSI Kamp Lenape, offering the same fun-filled summer programs people have enjoyed at the site for decades.

Kamp Lenape’s programs continue the property’s legacy of serving Kent County children that reaches back to the 1920s. The original building was created as Union School in 1921 as one of over 90 schools Pierre du Pont spearheaded for underserved communities. In the 1970s, that service continued with United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware’s Camp Lenape summer program. Now as Kamp Lenape under KSI, the tradition of making lives better for Delaware’s children with disabilities will keep moving forward.

Activities campers will enjoy include crafts, sports, swimming, community trips to fairs and events, and more. Days also include visits from community service representatives from local police, fire and other groups. And there’s plenty of room on the grounds to run, play basketball and dance. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily for all campers.
